This poem is dedicated to my grandfather C.D. (who is now deceased) he showed me that not all relationships are bad but can flourish in a healthy, positive way, the way our creator intended. I felt secure and loved for the first time in my life at a pre-teen age. Thanks Papa.
Papa
Strong you were
A pillar of strength
Always smiling
Showing those beautiful teeth
Giving me love and support
A child young and growing
Fatherless
My papa
Positive and lively
Showing me a better way
Loving me unconditionally
Showing me trust
When trust for me had ceased to exist
Oh how I love you and miss you
There are days when I need you so
Days when I want to cry
Papa
Thank you for loving me, for me.
This I will never forget
Thank you for being there
For showing me the way to trust
For sharing in the making
of who I am today
Papa
You would be proud of me,
today, always and forever
My tower of strength
My grandpa, My Papa

I HURT
Why do you hit me so?
I hurt you know
My heart pounds in expectation
Of what you will do
I Hurt
You slap, I cry
You kick, I cry
My face hurts,
My body is bruised
My eye is swollen
Oh how I hurt
Inside and out … I cry
Cause I want to leave … I cry
In fear of what you might do
I cry and I hurt
Why do you hit me so?
Why? Man, Why?
I cook, I clean
I do all for you
Yet you make me feel I failed you, over and over again
You make me feel as though I am nothing to you
Why do you hurt me so?
Why? Man, Why?
I hurt
To work I can’t go
Face bruised and swollen
For all to see
Shame and Humiliation
I wear
Lord I cry … Help me
For he hit me today
Love and sex that night
To wash away the sin of what he did today
Lord … Why?
Oh how I cry
How I hurt
Why? Man, Why?
Why do you hit me so?

ARE YOU....
"Are you Beautiful today,
flossin' and shakin' your thang,
makin everybody glance your way,
Are you Beautiful today,
lovely inside, lovely out, showing your grace,
smooth walkin, smooth talkin,
Girl, strut your stuff...
Are you Beautiful today "
